A Golden Evening Maternity Session | Cedar Falls Maternity Photographer

There’s something magical about maternity sessions, especially when they’re shared with friends. Last year, a couple of fellow photographers and I got together for a creative maternity shoot, and it was such a fun evening. Our friend Amanda, who was pregnant with her fourth baby (sweet Hazel!), modeled for us and gave us the perfect excuse to get out and shoot together.

As a maternity photographer in Cedar Falls, one of my favorite things about sessions like this is the chance to experiment with light, movement, and emotion. We chose a gorgeous prairie at golden hour for this shoot, and the results were so dreamy. The soft summer glow wrapped around Amanda’s earth-toned dresses perfectly giving everything a warm, timeless feel. I highly recommend choosing a flowy dress for your maternity session. Of course, you're welcome to wear whatever you want, but there are so many more posing possibilities when you choose a flowy gown for your maternity photos. We have lots of gowns and brimmed hats to choose from in our client closet if you don't want to stress about planning your wardrobe!

I love sessions that are collaborative and relaxed like this. It gave us the freedom to try new poses, play with different angles and let Amanda just be in the moment. Some of my favorite images from the evening are the candid ones... Amanda laughing, twirling, and loving on sweet little Monroe. These photos are everything I love about maternity photography: raw, romantic and timeless.
