We don’t photograph a lot of births these days—maybe just one or two each year—but when we do, it’s always something truly special. There’s just something about being invited into one of the most intimate and powerful moments of someone’s life that never stops feeling magical.
Birth photography is one of those things you’ll never regret having. You might not think you need it... until you realize how quickly the details start to fade. The emotions, the strength, the very first moments you meet your baby—those deserve to be remembered forever. That’s why it’s so important to choose an experienced birth photographer who knows how to quietly document each part of the story, no matter how unpredictable it gets.
At Sweet Little You Photography, we’ve had the honor of photographing over 30 births, making us the most experienced birth photographers in Waterloo, IA. While it’s not something we offer often anymore, we always feel deeply honored when families trust us to capture their baby’s first breath.
Archer’s birth was one of those stories I’ll never forget. I’ve photographed two of Nicole’s previous births, so I thought I knew what to expect—but this one had its own wild twists. Nicole went into labor naturally and spent the early hours at home, just like before. She’s a seasoned pro when it comes to unmedicated birth, and she handled everything with such grace and strength.
But after several hours of hard labor and no rest, things started to change. Before we knew it, we were heading into the OR for a cesarean birth. It wasn’t what anyone planned, but Nicole handled it like a warrior. And sweet baby Archer? He made quite the entrance—chunky, adorable, and even gave the nurse a fist bump on his way out.
Being there to capture that moment—the strength, the emotion, the joy—is exactly why I’ll always have a soft spot for birth photography.
If you're expecting and considering birth photography in Waterloo, IA, I’d love to talk with you. While we only take on a couple of births each year, we’d be honored to be part of your story.
